Pedometer# Privacy Policy
Last updated: September 30, 2026
Pedometer# is an iPhone step counter provided by Robert Hiles. This policy describes how information is handled when you use Pedometer#, its optional account and private-group features, and these support pages. It applies to Pedometer#, not the separate bookrot app.
For privacy questions or requests, email bookrot6@gmail.com.
Personal tracking on your iPhone
With your Motion & Fitness permission, Pedometer# reads step counts using Apple's Core Motion framework. Your personal step history, daily goals, home time zone, and imported CSV history are stored on your iPhone. Personal tracking works without an account. Imported history is processed locally and is not uploaded to private groups.
The app does not read Apple Health or Apple Watch data, use GPS to record your walks, or access your address book. It does not collect heart rate or raw accelerometer recordings. Your local history is not synced through CloudKit, and the app's history store is excluded from device backups. Removing the app may remove history that your iPhone can no longer supply.
Optional accounts and cloud sharing
If you choose to use an account, Apple and our service provider Supabase process the information needed to sign you in. This includes an Apple-linked account identifier and any email address Apple supplies, which may be a private relay address. With your cloud-sharing consent, Supabase stores your chosen profile name and photo, home time zone, daily goal, and consent record.
Account and installation identifiers are used to authenticate requests, separate accounts, and prevent duplicate or stale step uploads. These records are linked to your account. Authentication credentials are kept in the iPhone's Keychain. We use account information to provide and secure the features you request, not for advertising.
Private groups
Creating or joining a group requires a separate choice to share eligible phone step totals. Current group members can see your chosen name and photo, group membership, shared step totals, and rankings. Group names and any group photo you supply are also stored for the group. Group sharing can include earlier steps on the day you join, but not steps before the group's creation. Your personal daily goal, account email, and full private history are not shown to other members.
Group sharing is not a backup of your complete personal history. Other members may keep information or images they have already viewed or downloaded; deleting your copy cannot recall theirs.
How information is used and shared
We use information to provide step tracking, accounts, group comparisons, security, and support. Supabase provides authentication, database, and image-storage services. Apple provides device and sign-in services. Service providers may process technical information, such as IP addresses and request or security logs, to operate and protect their services. Data may be processed outside your country by these providers.
We do not sell personal data, use fitness measurements for marketing, or track you across other companies' apps and websites. Pedometer# includes no advertising or third-party analytics SDK. We may disclose information when required by law or necessary to address abuse or protect users and the service.
Retention and deletion
Personal history stays on your iPhone until you remove it or delete the app. Shared group step summaries are scheduled for deletion 30 days after their reporting interval ends. Leaving or being removed from a group removes that membership's shared steps. Limited membership records may remain to prevent stale uploads from recreating deleted data.
Cloud profiles and settings remain until changed or deleted. Replaced or removed photos are scheduled for storage cleanup after a one-day grace period. Operational logs and provider backups may persist according to the provider's retention and security practices.
To request account deletion in the app, open Settings → Profile & account → Delete account. The deletion flow covers the account, profile, stored photos, private settings, memberships, uploaded steps, and groups you own. You can also choose whether to erase the account's local history. Export any local history you want to keep first. Deletion requires identity verification and successful server processing; an error or interrupted request is not confirmation that deletion is complete.
If you cannot sign in or complete deletion, email bookrot6@gmail.com with “Pedometer privacy” in the subject to request help, access, correction, or deletion. We may need to verify account ownership. Do not send passwords, sign-in codes, or a full step-history export. Deleting the app alone does not delete cloud account data.
Permissions and your choices
You can revoke Motion & Fitness access in iPhone Settings. This stops the app from obtaining new step readings; it does not automatically erase saved history. You choose whether to sign in, upload a selected photo, or share steps with a group. You can remove a profile photo, leave groups, or request account deletion. To withdraw consent for cloud processing or exercise privacy rights available where you live, contact us at the email above.
Email support and this website
When you email us, we receive your email address and the information you include. We use that correspondence to respond and resolve support or privacy requests, and retain it as needed for those purposes and any applicable legal obligations. Gmail processes support email. Avoid including sensitive information that is not necessary for your request.
These pages are hosted on Vercel, which may process IP addresses and standard request logs to deliver and secure the website. We have not added advertising, analytics trackers, or account forms to these pages. Visiting them does not give the website access to your iPhone step history.
Children
Pedometer# is not directed to children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information through an account or support request, contact us so we can investigate and arrange deletion where appropriate.
Updates and contact
We will update the date on this page when the policy changes. Questions about this policy or your data can be sent to Robert Hiles, Pedometer#, at bookrot6@gmail.com.
