Privacy Policy
Last updated: September 10, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how bookrot ("bookrot," "we," "us") handles information when you use the bookrot iOS app (the "App"). bookrot is designed to keep reading and Screen Time activity on your device. The App has no sign-in. Apple and RevenueCat process purchase information to provide subscriptions.
The short version
- We do not sell your personal data.
- We do not track you across apps or websites.
- Your reading activity, settings, and chosen blocked apps stay on your device.
- Payments are handled by Apple. RevenueCat validates purchases, manages subscription access, and provides subscription analytics.
Information that stays on your device
bookrot has no sign-in. The name entered during onboarding, your reading progress, and your selected blocked apps are stored on your device and are not sent to RevenueCat. We do not collect your contacts, location, or advertising identifier. An Apple Account email used for payment is not a bookrot account and is not used by the App as a RevenueCat customer identifier.
Screen Time and the apps you choose to block
bookrot uses Apple's Family Controls / Screen Time framework to lock the apps you choose until you've earned time by reading. When you pick apps to block, iOS provides bookrot only with opaque tokens — bookrot cannot see which specific apps you selected, and that information is never sent off your device. Your selection and your earned-time balance are stored in a private, sandboxed App Group container on your device.
We do not receive, store, or transmit your Screen Time data, app usage data, or device activity. This data is used solely on your device to provide the app's core blocking-and-earning feature, consistent with Apple's Family Controls requirements. We never use it for advertising or analytics, and we never share it with data brokers.
Reading content and imports
The books included in bookrot are public-domain texts. Any reading progress is stored locally on your device. If a future version lets you import your own files, those files are processed on your device and are not uploaded to us.
Notifications
With your permission, bookrot may send local notifications (for example, a nudge from the block screen). These are generated on your device; we do not operate a push server and do not collect notification data.
Purchase information we collect through RevenueCat
bookrot offers subscriptions through Apple's In-App Purchase system. Apple processes your payment and manages your subscription; we do not receive your payment card details. Apple's handling of your purchase information is governed by Apple's privacy policy.
We use RevenueCat to validate purchase history, determine subscription access, restore purchases, and provide subscription management and analytics. RevenueCat processes purchase and subscription records, an automatically generated anonymous app user identifier, and technical purchase context such as app version, platform, locale, and currency. We do not connect this identifier to the name entered during onboarding or to a bookrot account. We do not use this information for advertising or tracking across other companies' apps.
For RevenueCat's handling of this information, see RevenueCat's Privacy Policy.
Support requests
If you email bookrot6@gmail.com, we receive your email address and the information you choose to include in your message. We use this information to respond to your request. Do not send passwords or payment card details.
Children
bookrot is not directed to children under 13 and does not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Data retention and deletion
You can remove locally stored reading activity and settings by deleting the App. Deleting the App does not cancel an Apple subscription or automatically erase purchase records held by Apple or RevenueCat. Manage subscriptions in your Apple Account settings. For questions or requests concerning purchase data processed for bookrot, contact us at bookrot6@gmail.com. Purchase records may need to be retained to provide subscription access, prevent fraud, or meet legal obligations.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date above.
